Peters First Nation’s present-day community is located approximately 20 km southwest of Hope, B.C. Peters First Nation is Stó:lō, a Halkomelem (Halq’eméylum) speaking people of Central Coast Salish.
While the community contains Stó:lō people, Peters First Nation is governed independently from the Stó:lō Nation.
Throughout history, Peters First Nation has also been known as the “Squawtits” (Skw’átets) People, which translates from Halq’eméylum as “water trickling through”.
Today, approximately 175 people are members of Peters First Nation, 45 of whom live on its reserve lands.
Peters Resource Management LP is a Peters First Nation owned business that operates through the community’s economic development corporation. As a Nation-owned business, Peters Resource Management LP has a mandate to generate revenue, training, employment, and social investment opportunities for the community.
